Lipoabdominoplasty
Lipoabdominoplasty is a combination surgical procedure that combines abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) and liposuction (fat removal). It is designed to improve body contours, remove excess skin and fat in the abdominal area, and reshape the abdominal muscles. Lipoabdominoplasty is especially useful for patients who want to simultaneously remove fat and reduce skin volume, improving the overall aesthetics of the abdomen.
How Lipoabdominoplasty is Performed:
1. Consultation and Planning: During the initial consultation, the surgeon will discuss the patient’s goals, evaluate the skin and fat deposits, and explain what results to expect from the procedure.
2. Anesthesia: The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia.
3. Liposuction: The first step of the procedure involves liposuction, which removes fat deposits from the upper, lower, and flanks of the abdomen to create a more defined contour.
4. Incisions and Excess Skin Removal: After liposuction, the surgeon makes incisions through which excess skin is removed. The incisions are usually positioned so that they can be easily hidden under a panty line.
5. Muscle Contouring: If needed, stretched or separated abdominal muscles are tightened. This helps improve the tone and appearance of the anterior abdominal wall.
6. Belly Button Repositioning and Incision Closure: If a significant amount of skin is removed, the belly button may be repositioned to fit the new contours of the abdomen. The incisions are then closed with stitches.
Post-Operative Recovery:
• Following lipoabdominoplasty, the patient is usually required to wear a compression garment for several weeks. This helps reduce swelling and support the new contours of the body.
• It is recommended that you avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for the first few weeks after surgery.
• Pain, swelling, and bruising are common and will gradually subside over several weeks.
