Breast Augmentation - Augmentation Mammoplasty
Breast augmentation, or breast augmentation, is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure that increases the size, shape, and symmetry of the breasts. This procedure can help improve self-esteem and confidence in women who are unhappy with the natural size or appearance of their breasts.
How breast augmentation is performed:
1. Consultation and planning: A consultation is held before the surgery to discuss the patient’s expectations, possible implant sizes and types, and surgical techniques.
2. Choice of implants: Implants are either silicone or saline (salt water filled). Silicone implants are considered more natural in feel, while saline implants offer greater safety in the event of a leak.
3. Surgical procedure: The surgery usually takes 1 to 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes incisions, which may be located under the breast, around the areola, or in the armpit, depending on the implants used and the desired outcome.
4. Inserting the Implant: The implant may be placed between the pectoral muscle and the breast or under the pectoral muscle. The placement depends on the amount of natural breast tissue and the desired aspect of appearance.
5. Completing the Surgery: Once the implants are placed, the incisions are closed with sutures, staples, or skin glue.
Post-Surgery Recovery:
• Recovery may take several weeks. Swelling and mild pain may occur, but are usually controlled with prescribed painkillers.
• Patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise for several weeks.
• Special compression garments should be worn to support the breasts and reduce swelling.
